Junior Accountant – Remote

Abarca Health

This is a Full-time position in Remote - US posted May 11, 2021.

Location: Remote – US

Only the very odd or the very old enjoy having “junior” as part of their official name or title, so let’s get this out of the way: we don’t underestimate juniors. And we’ll never call you junior in jest… not directly. As Junior Accountant, you will assist the Finance Director and the Senior Accountant with all accounting needs. You will perform general accounting, financial reporting and external reporting functions for local management. You’ll be in charge of all Accounts Payable and disbursements (with the exception of payroll), including expense reports, reimbursements, pharmacy payments and vendor disputes.

A word of unwanted advice: if you’re still young enough to know everything, manage the urge to know everything out loud and don’t talk with your mouth full (of foot). Douse the days with a sprinkling of humor. When in doubt, ask and ye shall receive training.

The fundamentals for the job…

  • As our Junior Accountant, any one at any time may sidle up to you to provide unwanted constructive advice (see above) whenever you are preparing to file individual expense reports with their accompanying schedules.
  • This scenario of putting up with gratuitous guidance and advice will repeat itself whenever you lead/manage the Accounts Payables and Reimbursements process.
  • Rinse and repeat while assisting the preparation of monthly management reports and accompanying schedules, worksheets and narratives.
  • Rinse and repeat while assisting with the preparation and completion of the quarterly and annual regulatory filings.
  • Rinse and repeat while assisting with annual external audits.
  • Rinse and repeat while coordinating and resolving vendor and pharmacy payment issues.
  • When this scenario ceases completely, take it as a sign that it is time for the performance review that will excise junior from your title. No promises, however.

What you’re made of

The bold requirements…

  • Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field. (In lieu of a degree, equivalent relevant work experience may be considered.)
  • Accounting cycle and terms are your abc.
  • You shine when working in teams and have great presentation skills.
  • It goes without saying that you are computer proficient.
  • You understand and use Microsoft Office products and you’re a consummate Internet user and researcher (these are the basic digital skills you’ll use on a daily basis).
  • You can communicate effectively (read, write, speak, daydream, argue, flatter, add, subtract, etc.) in English and Spanish.
  • Must be authorized to work in US territory.

That something extra we´d love to see…

  1. Passionate: You are a perfectly energetic engine at work, putting your passion to good use; you would be great in sales. The record shows you could sell a lighter to the Devil.
  2. Analytical: You value the power of context & enjoy examining the past. You get the present by analyzing (and over-analyzing) events leading up to it. Your strategic and critical mindset requires all of the available information in order to process it and proceed. This methodology is very useful but it can also provoke analysis-fatigue in others. Good thing you’re aware of this
  3. Team Player: You are detail-oriented to the Nth degree, but you also manage to see the big picture. You are easy to relate to and get a deep satisfaction from working hard with others to achieve goals.
  4. Producer: You are part of the positive movers and shakers. Your level of enthusiasm is either contagious or downright aggravating. You were born to make things happen, are generally optimistic and can get others excited about doing what needs to be done.
  5. Responsible/Accountable: You take responsibility seriously, and always own up to what you say and do. You don’t speak without forethought. You follow through when you make a commitment, as your word is your bond; you know the value of a promise. You live by high values like honesty and loyalty, but that also means you can be a bit judgmental. You stand by your actions and decisions, as well as those of your team.
