Data Governance Operations Analyst


This is a Full-time position in Chicago IL posted May 29, 2020.

Location: Chicago, IL


We are seeking a Data Operations Analyst with strong conceptualization and analysis skills, as well as practical experience in establishing a data catalog in a hands-on fashion. You will collaborate in the creation of a data catalog and assist the organization in realizing value from its usage. This role has significant exposure to business, technology and data related functions, all within a multi-faceted insurance company (Life, Health, P&C).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform research to capture metadata and lineage working with Business and Technical SMEs
  • Provision and catalog data assets (including but not limited to asset ‘tagging’ and glossary management)
  • Maintain documentation for critical data elements, including the catalog, process and data flow diagrams
  • Provide quality rating management through data profiling and data lineage.
  • Manage preventative and detective controls: develop and manage custom data quality rules, audit compliance to standards/policies, monitor rule execution, act on results (e.g. alerting impacted parties)
  • Data quality case management and root cause analysis

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an area that focused on library science or equivalent and at least 2 years of professional librarian experience
  • In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 10 years related experience required
  • A minimum of 4 years professional experience working in ‘Metadata Librarian’ roles, including cataloging, management, administration, support, and ingestion of data assets
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively broadly across the organization
  • Proven ability to work across departments collaboratively to resolve issues, drive issues to closure, achieve desired results/goals, and/or implement change as needed
  • Willingness to use new technologies
