Jobs with High Demand During COVID-19 Crisis

May 12, 2020

None of thought as we saw in the New Year and said goodbye to 2019, that 2020 would change our lives so dramatically.  Many of us as usual saw in the New Year with enthusiasm and optimism.  Only a few scientists and government officials had any idea of what was coming.  Yet, globally our economies have suffered, and the job markets changed almost overnight.

Suddenly roles that were previously often considered relatively insignificant have risen in importance.  There is no doubt that some industries and organizations will suffer severe hardship from the global pandemic.  However, there are some sectors, employees, self-employed workers, companies and large organizations that will actually benefit from this massive upset to our lives.  For many people, this is not a conscious choice, and for some of us, it is a case of adapting to do anything that will continue to put food on our tables and keep a roof over our heads.  Increasingly, more people are finding that working from home is a very realistic option.  It is one that may well continue long after official lockdowns are lifted, and some sectors return to a new form of normality.

For many of us, terms such as “lockdown”, “social distancing” and “home-schooling” have quickly become part of our everyday vocabulary.  Here we explore some of the job roles that are in high demand during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.

Newspaper Delivery Drivers

As more people are either not allowed to, or prefer not to venture out.  Because people still like to see their news in a tangible printed form, demand for newspapers has increased as more people have time to read them.  Some are venturing out as far as a paper shop, but many require home delivery.  Therefore, job roles like newspaper delivery drivers have come into demand.

Newspaper Mailers

Just as those who deliver to homes from the local news store, newspaper companies are employing additional people to post out their newspapers to avid loyal readers.

Magazine Delivery Drivers

Along the same lines as newspaper delivery drivers, consumers are more eager than ever to keep up to date via their chosen industry or leisure magazine. Still, they cannot go out to collect it.  So in many places, bespoke drivers are bringing the magazines to them.

Magazine Mailers

Magazine subscriptions have increased massively, and therefore the mailing rooms have recruited additional staff to send it all out.
