Character Designer (Mechanical Focus) – Remote


This is a Full-time position in Remote - US posted July 19, 2021.

We are seeking a Character Designer for a short-term freelance assignment for an unannounced sci-fi comedy series. We are looking for someone with strong draftsmanship, previous studio experience, and experience working with mechanical designs. Ideally, this person will be able to start working within the next month.
Character Designers develop the look, tone, appeal, and design of characters that fit within this epic fantasy story. Through research, design exploration, conversations, and collaboration, character designers will work with the creative leads to develop the attitudes, personality, costumes, and poses.

What You’ll Do:

  • Align with the style and sensibility of the show
  • Translate reference to visually develop and design a character’s personality, mood, and tone
  • Develop character expressions, turnarounds, and production assets
  • Present work in a clear and organized manner that demonstrates intent
  • Adhere to the production schedule and deliver completed assignments on time
  • Provide an open dialogue with production management on any potential roadblocks or concerns in delivering assignments on time
  • Collaborate with grace, humility, inclusion, and open mindedness

What You’ll Need:

  • Previous character design experience on a series is a must
  • Portfolio that demonstrates a strong understanding of character design for production settings
  • Experience drawing mechanical characters (think robots, machinery, mechanics, industrial design)
  • Excellence in draftsmanship with a working knowledge of anatomy and/or volumetric drawing
  • Advanced working knowledge of digital drawing tools
  • Broad knowledge of artistic styles and latest technology is essential
  • Samples and/or credits demonstrating excellence in character design
  • Excellent verbal, written, and e-social communication skills
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
