Job Description

The Electrical Failure Analysis Engineer will be based in Milpitas, CA and will be responsible for implementing and maintaining cost-effective methods of troubleshooting systems, software, and/or equipment.

Responsible for Implementing Solutions on Critical items to propose to the customers and to keep in good health the failure inventories of the repair or manufacturing process.

Responsible to keep and increase the Technical knowledge and work with education department to develop or make planning to train the technical people. In order to have a good flexibility between projects or technologies.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…

  • Use Electrical Testing and diagnostic Equipment to test and troubleshoot complex Printed Circuit Board Assemblies and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Perform electrical testing, debug and troubleshoot down to component level for reliability test failures using diagnostic tools such as TDR, oscilloscopes, SMUs, thermal camera, x-ray, curve tracer and etc.
  • Able to read schematic diagram, data sheet and understands the component functions and its applications.
  • Troubleshooting complex and compact electromechanical hardware system failure such as complex camera or optical wearable products.
  • Issue timely test reports summarizing results, deviations and present recommendations for potential improvements.
  • Perform deep dive analysis using various types of advance tools and instruments to identifying actual root causes.
  • Prepare and present daily updates to Sonic and Flex internal team on the debug status and results.
  • Work closely with Sonic design engineers and acquire the necessary knowledge and experience in order to effectively improving the turnaround time.
  • Participate in technical discussions with designers and provide regular updates to customer, team members and management.

Here is some of what you’ll need (required)…

  • Minimum B.S. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit analysis.
  • Able to read schematic and component data sheets and its applications.
  • Able to perform fault isolation analysis at different levels such as component, Printed Circuit Board and full system level assembly.
  • Experience in optical wearable products diagnostic and debug experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical tools and methods like Oscilloscopes, TDR, curve tracers, Thermal Imaging (FLIR and Lock-in Thermography), …. for fault isolation.
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques (optical microscopy, SEM, CT, X-Ray, EDX, FTIR, cross sections, dye and pull etc.).
  • Proficient in Excel (Pivot tables, VBA macros…)
  • Experience in python scripting.
