Reliability Engineer


This is a Full-time position in Fayetteville, NC posted May 29, 2020.

Location: Fayetteville, NC

Chemours is seeking a Reliability Engineer to join our growing Engineering team! This position will report directly to the Site Engineering Manager at our Fayetteville, NC location.

The Reliability Engineer will provide complex maintenance and reliability systems and equipment consulting across the company. Performs improvement audits in both a leadership and a support capacity. Identify gaps in a site’s work practices and helps define the business value for improvements. Develop strategies, program proposals, improvement programs and control plans to close the gaps and deliver business improvement and help the site implement. Obtain program funding as required to support developed programs. Perform technical consulting in various offerings such as root cause failure analysis, reliability centered maintenance, uptime/UPbase, and system preventative maintenance. Interacts with other consultants, plant and business personnel, suppliers, and contractors to accomplish business improvements.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement strategies for improving mechanical reliability.
  • Analyze equipment trends, historical data, and uptime data to recommend and justify improvements to obtain lowest life cycle cost on different classes of equipment.
  • Determine how process variation and equipment operation can impact equipment reliability.

  • Develop and implement equipment asset plans using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Risk Based Inspections (RBI) and other reliability techniques

  • Lead resolution of mechanical equipment failures utilizing high quality Root Cause determination methodology, typically Root Cause Failure Analysis.
  • Actively work with the Technology, Maintenance and Production organizations as a role model utilizing, training, and coaching advanced reliability techniques and tools to develop, maintain and drive a reliability culture
  • Develop appropriate equipment maintenance plans to include equipment checks, predictive & preventative maintenance (PPM), Critical spare parts, and SAP data utilizing appropriate tools such as criticality assessments and Failure Mode & affect Analysis, FMEA.
  • Participate in maintenance and reliability networks and share best practices, successes and failures.
  • Provide direction and leadership for area maintenance activities. Facilitate the growth of a reliability culture within the site organization and associated business partners.
  • Recommend appropriate Resources to deliver the strategy
  • Stress importance of Std. Operating Conditions, Integrity Operating Windows, Design Basis, Equipment criticality classification process, reliability analysis process, Design for Reliability Maintenance and Inspection.
  • Insure maintenance personnel understand the importance of materials of construction, proper procedures for gasketing and fastening, value of precision maintenance technologies (laser alignment, tribology, vibration analysis, close tolerance fit-ups, etc.) Equipment repair history, etc.
  • Insure operations personnel understand importance of compliance to SOCs, reporting nuisance alarms, utilizing start-up and shutdown procedures or proposing upgrades, identifying defects while performing operator rounds (see, hear, smell, feel) loss cause data analysis and that they understand the  equipment  impact of process control settings,
  • Identify and propose to leadership where external resources could improve site reliability and associated processes

The following is required for this role:

  • BS degree in Engineering

The following is preferred  for this role:

  • Experience working in the chemicals industry
  • Six Sigma certified as Green Belt
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence management
  • Good Analytical and Problem-solving skills.
  • Proven strong contributor with the capability to work independently
  • Good communication and presentation skills (both oral and written)
  • Awareness of Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) codes and standards
  • Understands the Process Safety Management (PSM) process particularly Management of Change (MOC)
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work around multiple concurrent projects
  • Production Downtime Analysis that can be used to identify production capability, yield or quality gaps.
  • Understanding of Business Performance Measures and Critical to Quality issues.
  • Good personal computer and software skills e.g. Microsoft Office, Project, Excel, Powerpoint, SAP etc.
  • Understanding of the principles of:
    • Data analysis techniques and statistical interpretation skills
    • Failure analysis including preservation of evidence techniques
    • Maintenance and reliability best practices
    • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
    • Total Equipment Effectiveness (Uptime)
    • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
    • Equipment Life Cycle Cost Analysis – Total Cost of Ownership
    • Rotating equipment and alignment techniques
    • Basic materials science including material selection and properties
    • Equipment life cycle cost analysis
    • Root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA)
    • Various NDT techniques for Inspection. Eddy current, Ultrasonic thickness, radiography, visual inspections
    • Good understanding of Condition based maintenance technologies including Vibration analysis, Oil Analysis, Infrared thermography, Ultrasonics and performance testing
    • Predictive techniques for fixed, rotating, power distribution equipment and  instrumentation (e.g. vibration analysis, nondestructive testing, thermography)
    • Engineering design standards and their application
