The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Anesthesia in Surgical Services. The Manager, Anesthesia basic function is the management of the day-to-day operations of the anesthesia technology department. Responsible for the staff operational schedules to provide 24-hour coverage for the department. Active involvement in staff recruitment and retention. Responsible for the orientation and on boarding of new hires, as well as the validation of their unit specific competencies (probation and annual). Demonstrates knowledge, understanding and operational familiarity in relation to critical and non-critical equipment. Maintains and organizes the anesthesia environment, equipment, supplies and personnel to facilitate department functions.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

Associate degree in relevant field preferred

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in Anesthesia Technician / Technologist preferred

Basis Life Support (BLS) Certification by the American Heart Association

Experience:

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills required.

3+ years of previous experience in acute care setting.

3-5+ years managerial experience in Anesthesia Technology Departments.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Medical Terminology
  • Sterile Technique
  • Basic computer knowledge including Windows, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to multi task
  • Demonstrate professional customer service skills

Department Specific Functions

Demonstrates exemplary ability to organize and coordinate all the functions of the department as described in the core job summary.

Works under direction of an anesthesia care provider.

Manages the day-to-day operations of the department in an efficient and organized manner.

Actively participates in recruitment and retention of anesthesia technicians/technology personnel.

Orients new hires and support continuing education to the staff under his/her supervision.

Validates competencies of the staff under his/her supervision (probation and annual).

Evaluates equipment and supplies.

Maintains adequate supplies’ par levels and maintains the department stocked according to the par levels established.

Demonstrates proficiency in the application, acquisition, preparation, and troubleshooting of various types of equipment required for the delivery of anesthesia care.

Demonstrates knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and principles of anesthesia technology.

Demonstrates knowledge, comprehension and support the application of anesthetic principles and guidelines in relation to airway management during patient care.

Demonstrates knowledge, comprehension and practical assistance with relation to fluid, whole blood, salvaged blood and blood component management during patient care.

Performs anesthesia machines quality controls, reacts to device alarms, diagnosis, and treats problems.

Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot anesthesia machine, ASA monitors, and adjunct equipment problems.

Communicates appropriately, clearly and timely to members of the UHealth medical staff, medical directors, administrative team, and surgical and perioperative services leaders.

Demonstrated effective organizational skills through ongoing interaction with personnel, administrative team, and medical staff to facilitate the UHealth mission and vision.

Exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills.  Demonstrates the ability to formulate quality action plans, perform root cause analysis and recommend alternative courses of action to reduce potential quality and/or risk concerns or to improve existing processes.

Demonstrates knowledge on regulations and standards related to ASATT, TJC, CMS, AHCA, and the Department of Health. Remains current in the appropriate fields.
