Director, Data Operations

What you will be doing:

• Working with our private cloud tenants to stand up a performant, reliable, efficient and secure set of services:

• General purpose Kubernetes and Slurm clusters for internal NVIDIA users;
• Business Unit-specific solutions, e.g. Autonomous Vehicles clusters for training and validation. These can be “dedicated” standard clusters or sets of bare metal servers / storage;
• World-leading supercomputers;
• Manage “capacity requests” for new cluster footprints (or changes in existing footprints) in support of tenants;
• Working with sr. management to judge when/whether these requests will be granted;
• Working with R&D and the tenants on exact designs and requirements;
• Building and implementing the plans to do the work.
• Working with Finance to:
• Build and maintain a demand forecast, this includes engagements with our users, business units and org leaders to capture and judge their forecasts;
• Using these forecasts, build a capacity plan of datacenters, services and capital equipment needed to satisfy demand;
• Gain approvals and implement the plan;
• Working with infrastructure teams (including datacenter, h/w vendors and internal suppliers) to provide the resources needed for our services;
• Operating NOCs and SOCs in support of our services;
• Owning the support processes, ticketing systems, DCIMs, etc., used in datacenter operations;
• Running Business Operations and Procurement for the team.
• Establish and measure service metrics for the services provided to the tenants.
• Provide underlying infrastructure reliability info to our internal suppliers, e.g. server reliability data.

What we need to see:

• BE/BS or MS in Computer Science/IT, with 15+ years equivalent experience.

• The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of infrastructure and service deployments. They will also have the skills needed to understand, implement and make operational high-level services. Good relationship skills across engineering, finance, marketing and our user community (researchers, external partners, internal development) is essential.
• Ability to mediate requests from disparate tenants, work with leaders to understand priorities and apply judgment to determine the appropriate balance between agility, productivity and stability/quality.
• International and US Gov’t experience is a plus.
