Editor, Math (Remote)

Location: Remote – US

This position will work closely with the K-12 Editorial Lead, Math for different grade bands across K-12 mathematics, helping to review and edit Amplify Math Content for clarity, conciseness, voice, and mathematical accuracy. This position will report to the K-12 Editorial Lead, Math.

***This is a contract position running through December 2021.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit multiple mathematical lessons and assessments per day, for a specific grade band (6-8 + A1). This includes Student Edition, Teacher Edition, and digital content, ensuring that updates made to one are made throughout the others (as appropriate).

  • Ensure consistency of voice and adherence to program style, vision, and philosophy.

  • Ensure that lessons and other content meet with strict word and page counts.

  • Ensure that lessons maintain alignment with the Amplify Core Math Authoring Guide.

  • Follow editorial workflows for editing, reviewing and proofing Student Edition, Teacher Edition, and digital lessons.

  • Meet on a weekly basis, or more frequently as needed, with the K-12 Editorial Lead to prioritize workload, review new additions to the Core Math Authoring Guide, and ensure consistency across the content.

  • Monitor editorial progress and ensure that it keeps pace with Amplify Math’s production schedule.

  • Identify any issues and risks to the project by raising concerns to the K-12 Editorial Lead, and make suggestions for resolution as appropriate.

  • Verify the mathematical correctness of Amplify Math content, including both print and digital content.

  • Review and copy edit manuscripts and proofs of print content. Ensure alignment and consistency across grade levels, working in conjunction with the K-12 Editorial Lead.

Basic Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics (or demonstrated mathematical expertise up through Algebra 1)

  • Experience with formatting of mathematical type (MathType)

  • Comfort using Google Docs and Suggesting changes (i.e., “track changes”)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities

  • Experience working effectively on cross-functional teams with diverse priorities and focus, i.e., a Curriculum Team comprised of Curriculum Developers, Managing Editors, Designers, Graphers, and Writers

Preferred Requirements:

  • 3+ years of editorial or copy editing experience with mathematics curriculum

  • Editorial experience with digital curriculum

  • Prior mathematics teaching experience
