ESS Global Product Manager

Duties and Responsibilities 

Energy and Sustainability Services (ESS) global product manager, Capital Markets

What this job involves

This role is primarily focused on the following Product Families and sub-products: 

  • Green financing

  • Renewable energy financial transactions 

  • Sustainable asset valuations and investment sales 

  • Clean Energy Sourcing 

Over time, we expect this role to help launch new Capital Markets product families and sub-products. 

ESS has a growth target of doubling the business by FY22.  This role will be a key driver of growth, by owning and leading the above product families as part of our overall product strategy for ESS.

This role works with the ESS Global Product Owner to:

  • Develop and rollout an ESS Growth Strategy

  • Standardize delivery of existing products, and unlock new growth

  • Differentiate our offering to attract and retain key clients

  • Ultimately, drive revenue and margin growth.  

These categories are explained in greater detail below.

Develop and Rollout an ESS Growth Strategy

  • Own and define the ESS suite of offerings from a global perspective, ensuring they are market relevant, deliverable, practical, and profitable.

  • Help to steer ESS towards more profitable and scalable offerings, and away from non-scalable or unprofitable areas.

  • Focus on where we can prioritise, standardise, globalize, configure/localize, enhance, expand, persevere, pivot, or kill our service offerings.

Standardize Delivery and Unlock New Growth

  • Develop clear product specifications, including allowable configurations, and deploy this to relevant Capital Markets Professionals. Provide training to relevant Capital Markets Professionalsto fully understand our offering, and leverage their teams to sell on our behalf.

  • Work with Capital Markets teams to optimize existing client relationships, and align client growth strategies with the ESS Growth Playbook, and identified future ways of working.

  • Develop a targeted plan to upsell existing JLL clients who are buying other services from JLL, but not from ESS (or buying only some ESS offerings but not all). Leverage the Capital Markets teams to assist.

Differentiate our Offering to Attract and Retain Key Clients 

  • Identify ways to differentiate our offering, including innovating pricing models, market positioning, branding, and clearer, compelling marketing

  • Develop and rollout Multi-Generational Product Plans (MGPP) and Multi-Generational Technology Plans (MGTP) to facilitate long-term engagement and mutual benefits with clients.

  • Via regular engagement with clients and other stakeholders, ensure that our offering is market-relevant, fit for purpose, and positions JLL strongly over the long-term.

Drive Revenue and Margin Growth 

  • Above all else, ensure that the above and all of your work is moving the needle for JLL in terms of revenue and margin improvement, in line with the ESS Growth Playbook, and wider JLL objectives.

Performance Objectives 

Taking ownership and action for your ESS Product work stream. 

  • In line with the growth playbook, and under guidance from the ESS Product Owner, take ownership of your respective work stream, ensuring there is a clear program of works, high quality content is being created, effective linkages are made to other work streams, product groups, and the wider business, particularly Capital Markets professionals.

  • Clearly defined go-to-market strategy, which is market relevant, easy to understand, differentiates our offering, and has an MGPP.

Demonstrated improvements in ESS financial performance 

  • Measured by market penetration, speed to conversion, ability to scale and be delivered efficiently, and overall revenue and margin performance

  • Clear tracking and reporting of financial performance, and a detailed understanding of drivers of financial results.

Stakeholder interaction 

  • A strong and coherent network of stakeholders across the firm, which positions you as the go-to-expert for ESS and your product work stream.

  • Strong support from relevant stakeholders, particularly sales, accounts, and operations, ensuring the ESS Product Group is positioned to add substantial value to the firm.

  • Proven ability to deliver results in a matrix structure, and across the globe.

Experience, Skills, Location


  • 10-15 years of experience in a related capital markets or sustainability role.  Strong preference with direct experience in both.

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Finance, Business, or a related field.

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience on multi-regional or global projects.


  • Experience within the real estate services industry

  • Higher level degree in Business, Finance, or MBA

  • Additional languages, particularly covering European languages.  

  • Open to UK, EU, US or Australia for the right candidate.
